More Details

Ed Tuttle spent a career shaping the aesthetic of Southeast Asian luxury, from Amanpuri's stone courtyards to Amanjena's desert pavilions. Maha Bhetra is his signature carried onto the water, a 90 foot traditional Thai motor yacht built to the same philosophy that made his resorts legendary: restraint, craftsmanship, and an unshakable sense of place.

For thirty years she has belonged to one family, and it shows. The teak saloon, the custom Jim Thompson cushions, the hand selected Southeast Asian antiques scattered through the cabins, none of it reads as staged. It reads as lived in, cared for, and quietly proud of its own history.

Chartering out of Phuket, Maha Bhetra carries up to six guests overnight across three identical 20 square meter cabins, each with its own compartmentalized shower and WC, private vanity, dual wardrobes, and a bed built for real rest at 140 by 200 centimeters. The layout favors privacy over spectacle, which is precisely the point on a yacht this considered.

Life on board centers on the flybridge and the open plan saloon, where sea breeze moves freely through teak louvered cabinets and low slung seating built for long lunches and longer sunsets. Meals lean into Thailand's coastal pantry: fresh catch, seafood barbecues at dusk, Thai classics alongside international plates, paired with regional spirits and a well chosen wine list. Wellness therapists can be arranged for on deck massages, and the crew, several of whom have sailed together for over two decades, know the Andaman's dive sites and fishing grounds the way locals know their own backyard.

From her home waters in Phuket, charters can reach Phang Nga Bay's limestone karsts and the James Bond Island made famous on film, the quieter coves of Krabi, the Racha Islands for diving and big pelagic sightings, and further afield, the coral gardens of the Similan and Surin marine parks. Snorkeling, paddleboarding, kayaking, and fishing are all part of the standard itinerary, tailored to how active or how idle a group wants the days to feel.

What sets a Maha Bhetra charter apart from Phuket's newer fleet of production yachts is provenance. She was not designed to charter well. She was designed by one of the twentieth century's most influential hospitality architects, for private use, and only later opened to guests. That distinction carries through every joint of teak and every detail of the interior.
